    Day

    Leh to Padum via Singge La Pass
    • Drive Time: 8–9 hours
      Highest Point: Singge La Pass – 5,150 m
      Overnight: Hotel / Guesthouse in Padum (3,650 m)

      We start early from Leh and drive towards Padum, the heart of Zanskar Valley. The journey takes us across the spectacular Singge La Pass, one of the highest motorable passes in the region, with panoramic views of rugged Himalayan terrain. En route, we also cross Sir Sir La Pass and pass remote settlements including Nerak Village. Arrive in Padum by evening and rest to acclimatize.

    Padum – Karsha, Stongdey & Zangla Monastery Excursion
    • Drive Time: 4–5 hours (round trip)

      Today is dedicated to exploring Zanskar’s cultural and spiritual heritage. Visit:

      • Karsha Monastery – the largest monastery in Zanskar
      • Stongdey Monastery – dramatically perched on a hilltop
      • Zangla Palace & Nunnery

      Interact with locals, walk through traditional villages, and gain insight into Zanskari life before returning to Padum.

    Padum to Purney (Drive) – Trek to Phuktal Monastery
    • Drive: Padum to Purney – 3 hours
      Trek: Purney to Phuktal – 2–3 hours
      Altitude: Phuktal – 3,850 m
      Overnight: Phuktal Monastery Guesthouse

      Drive to Purney, the road head of the Phuktal route, then begin a scenic trek along the Tsarap River to the iconic Phuktal Monastery, uniquely built inside a natural cave and seemingly suspended on a cliff. Explore the monastery and enjoy a peaceful night in this spiritual sanctuary.

    Phuktal to Purney (Trek) – Drive to Pishu
    • Trek: 2–3 hours
      Drive: 4–5 hours
      Overnight: Camping at Pishu (3,500 m)

      After breakfast, trek back to Purney and continue driving towards Pishu Village. On the way, visit Barden Monastery, an important Gelugpa site. At Pishu, meet the trekking crew (horsemen & cook) and settle into pre-pitched camps.

    Pishu to Hanumur
    • Trek Time: 5–6 hours
      Altitude: Hanumur – 3,850 m
      Overnight: Camp

      An easy and scenic walk along the right bank of the Zanskar River, passing Pidmo Village and cultivated fields before reaching the small hamlet of Hanumur (Hanumil). The trail is gentle, making it a pleasant trekking day.

    Hanumur to Snertse via Parfi La Pass
    • Trek Time: 6–7 hours
      Pass Height: Parfi La – 3,950 m
      Overnight: Camp at Snertse

      The trail climbs away from the Zanskar River onto a high plateau before ascending the Parfi La Pass. The climb is steep and demanding. After crossing the pass, descend sharply to the Oma Chu River, cross a bridge, and continue to the campsite at Snertse.

    Snertse to Lanak via Hanumula Pass
    • Trek Time: 6–7 hours
      Pass Height: Hanumula La – 4,950 m
      Overnight: Camp at Lanak

      A challenging day with a steady ascent through narrow gorges and alpine terrain to Hanumula Pass. Enjoy dramatic views before descending steeply and then climbing gently to reach the beautiful campsite at Lanak.

    Lanak to Sumdo via Barmila Pass
    • Trek Time: 7 hours
      Pass Height: Barmila La – 4,680 m
      Overnight: Camp at Sumdo

      A long ascent from the Lingshed region towards Barmila Pass, with some narrow and exposed sections requiring careful footing. From the pass, enjoy breathtaking views of snow-clad peaks before descending to Sumdo campsite.

    Sumdo to Dibling Village
    • Trek Time: 5–6 hours
      Altitude: Dibling – 4,200 m
      Overnight: Homestay / Camp

      Today involves multiple river crossings, so carry suitable footwear (or use horses if needed). Reach the remote and charming Dibling Village, home to around 14 houses and a hilltop Gelugpa (Yellow Hat) monastery. Visit the gompa and enjoy authentic village life.

    Dibling to Sumdo via Pikdong La Pass
    • Pass Height: Pikdong La – 4,895 m
      Trek Time: 6–7 hours
      Overnight: Camp at Sumdo

      Cross the scenic Pikdong La Pass, traversing snow slopes and dramatic rock formations. From the top, enjoy panoramic views of towering Himalayan peaks. Descend into a wide valley and follow the river to the campsite.

    Sumdo to Kanji La Base via Kanji La Pass
    • Trek Time: 5–6 hours
      Pass Height: Kanji La – 5,150 m
      Overnight: Camp near Rangdum River

      A tough but rewarding day. Start early for the long ascent to Kanji La Pass. From the summit, witness stunning views of Nun–Kun Peaks, the Zanskar Range, and the Ladakh Range. Descend to the Rangdum River and camp by its banks.

    Kanji La Base to Kanji Village

      Altitude: Kanji Village – 3,900 m

      Drive back to Leh, stopping at the moon-like landscapes of Lamayuru Monastery and the ancient Alchi Monastery, famous for its Indo-Tibetan artwork. Evening at leisure in Leh.
